Meet Kathryn

Kathryn blends her passion for art in therapeutic principles, both balancing the other. She has worked as a qualified mental health social worker and counsellor for 30 years understanding the deep benefits of creativity in enhancing wellbeing and mental health.

Kathryn has a specific interest in mental health and treating trauma through a creative lens, utilising a combination of evidence-based therapeutic practices such as psychotherapy, trauma informed cognitive based therapy, (CBT) dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) eye movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR), wellness coaching and art therapy.

EMDR is best practise for treating trauma, assisting people to safely desensitise and process difficult memories and work towards a healthier future orientation. Art approaches include crayons and paint; however Kathryn specialises in the tactile and somatic nature of clay, a medium that can help regulate and process emotions and unlock unconscious patterns. When combined together they work synergistically, clay can be nurturing and playful, helping you to feel safe, regulated and grounded. It can help gain access to preverbal or unconscious thoughts, images and feelings that can then be processed safely.
