Art Therapy

Counselling & Art. A space to feel, grow, and create.

Original art by Kathryn Pekin

Art mediums engage different senses providing a safe space to externalise and interpret difficult or traumatic experiences, sometimes preverbal or unconscious feelings. The nature of art is grounding and emotionally regulating and used in combination with psychotherapy or EMDR becomes a powerful approach for trauma re-processing and integrating a healthier future outlook.

Different mediums such as crayons, paint, found objects can be explored depending on client preferences, however, here are some examples of clay therapy:

  • Emotional Release & Self-Expression: The 3D nature of clay provides a connection between mind, body and soul, it can release long held somatic thoughts and feelings, often tapping into early memories or a playful aspect of ourselves.

  • Grounding & Mindfulness: Clay is similar to a stress ball; the sensory tactile nature can calm our nervous system, allowing greater clarity and insight into our inner world in a safe and compassionate safe. We can sync our breath as we work slowly with clay, allowing a greater sense of mindfulness and relaxation.
    Healing & Growth:
The visual and tactile nature can be represented in transformation sculptures or other symbolic pieces, utilising different timelines before and after, what might the future look like.

  • Strengthening Identity & Self-Worth: This could explore key symbols representing your life or aspects that you would like to develop, they could be made into a tile, hanging charm, totem, affirmation stone, self portrait

  • Connecting with others - small groups: Fun, playful groups, could explore individual or shared sculptural pieces, tiles, handprints, symbols or practical pieces (mugs, candle holders, plates etc)

Clay art therapy for trauma recovery can be incredibly healing, providing a non-verbal way to process emotions, regain control, and rebuild a positive sense of self.

Work With Me

  • 1-1 Sessions

I offer a calm, supportive space where creative expression becomes a pathway to insight and emotional wellbeing. Through drawing, painting or clay work, clients can build self‑awareness and develop coping strategies in a non‑judgmental environment. The focus is on the process, not artistic skill, allowing individuals to express what words can’t easily capture.

  • Workshops

I offer small pottery workshop in a relaxed atmosphere, where participants can learn basic clay techniques such as hand‑building, shaping, and simple glazing. Everyone creates their own unique piece while enjoying a calm, creative atmosphere. No experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to play with clay.

  • Private Groups

If you have a small group (4-10 people) and would like to have a private art therapy workshop, this is for you. We go through mindfulness, breathing and some counselling exercises whilst creating a beautiful piece to take home. This is a great way to get closer to your friends and family and take home a handmade memento of your time.

“Their attention to detail and commitment to quality truly stood out. We’ve already recommended them to others.”
